European Sustainable Development Network in Icy Helsinki

19.11.2019
The European Sustainable Development Network (ESDN) is, so far, an informal network of government representatives and sustainability experts. ESDN members meet once a year in the country holding the respective EU Presidency—this year, the meeting took place in Helsinki. N³ has been an associate member of the ESDN for five years. Peter Wolfmeyer, a partner at N³, was present in Helsinki and moderated several discussion forums. The main focus was on current issues surrounding the UN's 2030 Agenda.

The program operated under the motto “Towards a Sustainable Europe 2030 – From Reflection to Action.” The presentations and discussions provided an up-to-date overview of the state of implementation of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in individual EU countries, in Europe as a whole, and in other parts of the world. Even in Europe, considerable efforts are still needed to achieve the goals set out in the SDGs. To achieve this, cooperation with Brussels institutions is set to be strengthened, especially in the context of the planned “Green Deal” by the new EU Commission. A total of 120 members and guests from 26 countries attended the annual conference at the Finlandia Hall (see photo).

The next annual conference is scheduled to take place in Berlin in October 2020.
